Establishing Cancer Registry: Oncology in BiH and Perspectives of EU Collaboration

March, 2019

One of the tasks of the BiH institutions within the framework of the health care reform is the establishment of a Cancer registry, a database that will enable the collection of accurate and relevant data on this disease in BiH, as well to open the way for the The European Network of Cancer Registries (ENCR) which was established in 1990 by the European Commission.

In addition to providing scientists with an understanding of the origin, current situation and possibilities of treating cancer patients, the establishment of a cancer registry in BiH would provide an opportunity for local experts to participate in educational events of the ENCR. Additionally, they would get the opportunity to jointly apply for EU projects and access the data from ENCR that will facilitate collaboration on scientific studies, which would greatly strengthen the oncology capacities at the local level.
